The non-profit arts and fashion organization, PARK (Promoting Artists Redefining Kulture) will host its fourth instalment of PARKLUXE on October 4 at the Riverwalk Plaza in East Village. The event aims to showcase nationally recognized, sophisticated designers to an Albertan audience while celebrating their collective talents for the first time on a Western Canadian stage. PARK is extending its program to designers in Eastern Canada that share a similar need for exposure to consumers and media. PARKLUXE is a heavily anticipated event, attended by an estimated 800 plus guests from across the country.
Following his acclaimed Fall/Winter 2014 show at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week, designer Matthew Gallagher is bringing his collection to Calgary. Milan-trained Matthew Gallagher will be featured as a special guest designer this year as the 2014 Cayman Islands Stylemaker, an innovative recognition program that supports talent in the fields of culinary, fashion, interior design and the arts.
“Being selected as the Cayman Islands Stylemaker has been an amazing experience and has provided me with this fantastic opportunity to take my brand across the country to the PARKLUXE event,” says Matthew Gallagher. “When I first visited the Cayman Islands I fell in love with Cayman life and the sense of style and sophistication that goes with it. The Stylemaker program and the destination have continued to serve as a source of inspiration and I’m excited to have the opportunity to forge new relationships with the Calgary market.”
Third-time PARKLUXE participant Caitlin Power, Calgary-born founder and designer of her self titled brand, has also been recognized nationally for her bold, confident and sophisticated designs. The mastery of Power’s work, has been most recently worn by celebrities such as singers, Cher Lloyd, and Estelle, ET Canada Host, Cheryl Hickey, and Hollywood actress Jenna Elfman.
Along with Caitlin Power, five other fashion designers have been invited by PARK from cross Canada to be featured in PARKLUXE 2014. The PARKLUXE 2014 line up includes; LAURA SIEGEL, MALORIE URBANOVITCH, PAUL HARDY, NICOLE CAMPRE and MATTHEW GALLAGHER presented by the Cayman Islands.
Kara Chomistek, PARK president, says, “This year, PARKLUXE will be raising the bar for cultural events hosted in Western Canada. We have an incredible, national line-up that couldn’t be possible without the support of partners like Lexus of Royal Oak and The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. She adds, “Our guests will also have an exciting opportunity to ‘shop the runway’ at the first PARKLUXE Designer Pop-up Shop, which will be available post-show”. ARK’s goal to cultivate art and culture within Calgary means that 100 per cent of the proceeds from ticket, bar sales and sponsorship enables the organization to continue to host events that bring exposure to aspiring artists.
